On July 14, Suez and its partners officially signed a cooperation agreement with Chongqing Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone, involving a total investment of approximately 170 million RMB, to jointly develop an organic solvent recycling project with an annual processing capacity of 30,000 tons (Phase I), which will provide hazardous waste recycling solutions for the Changshou Economic and Technological Development Zone and surrounding areas over the next 30 years.

According to the agreement, the three parties will establish a joint venture to invest in, construct, and operate an organic solvent recycling facility, scheduled to commence operations by mid-2027. With an initial annual processing capacity of 30,000 tons, the facility will offer 30 years of professional services to pharmaceutical, electronics, and other enterprises in the industrial park, Chongqing, and neighboring provinces that generate and reuse organic solvents. This project represents an innovative initiative by Suez, in collaboration with the industrial park and enterprise clients, to promote resource recovery of solid waste, providing scalable and sustainable solutions for advancing the circular economy and achieving carbon neutrality goals.
It is reported that organic solvents widely used in pharmaceutical production become mixed solvents containing impurities after manufacturing processes. These waste organic solvents are collected and transported to specialized treatment facilities, where they undergo regeneration through various separation and purification technologies, restoring them to national standard and production-required purity levels. The regenerated solvents are then returned to industrial production lines for reuse, expected to help customers reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 36,000 tons annually.
