Honda outlined its goals for its next-generation hybrid and electric vehicles during a recent“Automotive Technology Workshop” event in Tokyo.
Mid-Size Hybrids
The automaker highlighted a series of goals for a forthcoming platform for mid-size hybrid-electric vehicles set to debut in 2027.The platform would feature a modular architecture to reduce the need for part variations, as well as optimized rigidity, which officials said allows the company to cut nearly 200 pounds of weight from the platform. In addition, Honda said that the vehicles would better control the load placed on the tires during cornering, which would lead to“unprecedented” stability when driving.
Larger Hybrids in North America
Honda also plans to introduce a line of larger hybrid models — primarily targeting the North American market — in 2027.That system, the company said, would combine an advanced V6 engine with an energy management control system and more efficient drive units to improve fuel efficiency by more than 30%.
A New EV
Finally, the automaker announced plans to debut a compact fully electric model in Japan next year, followed by the U.K. and other Asian markets. That vehicle will be based on Honda's Super-ONE Prototype, which the company rolled out at this year's Japan Mobility Show.
