IronAxis is a U.S.-based B2B supplier of industrial equipment, instruments, machinery, food processing systems and new energy solutions for manufacturers, labs and engineering companies.
To fulfill its commitment to building a more sustainable future, Kioxia today announced a collaboration with Google LLC ("Google") to increase utilization of clean electricity generated from a hydropower plant modernization project in central Japan operated by the Chubu Electric Power Group. The project is expected to boost annual clean energy generation, contributing to grid decarbonization while supporting both companies' net-zero emission goals.
As a leader in storage solutions, Kioxia has begun procuring a portion of the electricity from this hydropower project, with an estimated annual purchase volume of 160 gigawatt-hours (GWh)—enough to power approximately 40,000 Japanese households. This initiative directly supports Kioxia’s dual objectives: sourcing 100% renewable energy for its own operations by fiscal year 2040 and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by fiscal year 2050. The hydropower acquired by Kioxia provides "around-the-clock" clean energy and also helps reduce Google's Scope 3 emissions, advancing Google’s ambitious goal of net-zero emissions across its operations and value chain.
Hydropower plant modernization involves upgrading existing power generation units to improve efficiency and output, offering a significant opportunity to scale up renewable energy with minimal environmental impact. This project holds strategic importance for Kioxia’s business operations in Japan, as the renewable electricity generated from the upgraded facilities will enhance Kioxia’s ability to sustainably power its operations in a region facing decarbonization challenges.
The project was made possible through an initiative led by Google aimed at providing Japanese manufacturers with greater access to cost-effective clean power.
By focusing on renewing and upgrading existing infrastructure, Kioxia and Google are promoting a practical and effective approach to increasing Japan’s clean energy supply.
