IronAxis is a U.S.-based B2B supplier of industrial equipment, instruments, machinery, food processing systems and new energy solutions for manufacturers, labs and engineering companies.
EV battery maker Solid Power Inc. announced a collaboration with automotive company BMW and battery manufacturer Samsung SDI to develop a demonstration vehicle powered by all-solid-state battery technology.
Commercializing ASSB Technology
The companies expect the collaboration to advance the commercialization of all-solid-state battery technology. The project also supports Solid Power's goal of supplying its electrolyte to Tier 1 battery manufacturers and automotive OEMs.
Samsung SDI plans to use Solid Power's sulfide-based solid electrolyte to build battery cells. Samsung SDI and BMW will then evaluate the cells based on mutually agreed requirements and parameters.
ASSB Advantages
Solid Power CEO and President John Van Scoter stated that the company designed its solid electrolyte technology for conductivity and stability. According to the company, all-solid-state battery cells replace liquid electrolytes with solid materials, enabling longer battery life, improved safety, higher energy density, and a more cost-effective approach compared to conventional lithium-ion solutions.
Driving EV Innovation
Martin Schuster, BMW Group's vice president of battery cell and cell module, stated that the partnership promotes progress in battery technology.
Samsung SDI Executive Vice President Stella Joo-Young Go noted that such advancements could drive innovation in electric vehicles.
