WINDINGS

HV windings are vacumm cast in epoxy resin. Winding conductor is copper that is wound on sophisticated winding equipment with very high dielectric inter-turn insulation. Tensioning, speed and positioning are automatically controlled. Winding design keeps both operating and transient voltage stresses well below manageable levels. Complete windings are placed into close tolerance molds. Vaccum casting and curing are carried out under carefully controlled vacuum levels, temperatures and times. The complete cast coil is a dense, solid mass which is essentially free of voids

Heavy sections of epoxy provide not only outstanding dielectric properties but excellent mechanical protection as well. After casting, the winding is unaffected by external environments such as humidity, corrosive vaports, solvents and dust.

To faciliate ease of connections and increased reliability, all conductor material extending through the epoxy(taps and line lead terminals) is copper based.

CORE

Cores are constructed from high-grade, grain oriented silicon steel. Laminations are accurately cut to length on state-of-the-art equipment and carefully hand stacked into a cruciform shape to accommodate round coils. Core flux densities are kept well below saturation. Cores are stacked with minimum gaps on a horizontal table. Clamping structures and banding are then assembled to prevent lamination shift during the standing operation. Core design and manufacturing operations are carefully monitored to give excellent losses, exciting currents and sound levels.
