Global specialty chemicals company Evonik officially unveiled its presence at the 2025 China International Import Expo (CIIE). Under the theme "Beyond Chemistry, Driving a Green Future," Evonik showcased 11 innovative products, signed seven strategic agreements, and launched the 2025 edition of its "Evonik China Sustainability Practice Report," comprehensively demonstrating its commitment and achievements in deepening its presence in China and empowering sustainable industrial upgrades.
Summer Xia, President of Evonik Greater China, said: "The CIIE's concept of 'harmonious coexistence' closely aligns with Evonik's development direction in China. We consistently take Chinese market needs as the starting point for innovation, transforming global technologies into localized solutions—whether in green materials, low-carbon technologies, or collaborative innovation pathways—all highly consistent with Evonik's global innovation-driven growth strategy, reflecting our determination and actions to drive a green future through local innovation."
Innovation Highlights: Global Launches and Local R&D Advancing Together
The 11 newly launched innovative products span three major areas: consumer applications, healthcare, and industrial applications. Among them, four are globally debuted for the first time, and two combine global debut with local R&D, highlighting the precise alignment between Evonik's global research resources and China's market demands. For example, REWOQUAT? CQ? ALtra Grease Remover, developed by Evonik's China team specifically for tough Chinese cooking oil stains, is a new-generation ultra-efficient degreasing agent capable of effectively breaking down stubborn grease. Another locally developed product, TEGOSTAB? B 84841/84851 polyurethane surfactants, helps home appliances meet the latest energy efficiency standards, advancing green manufacturing.
In addition, Evonik presented multiple innovations targeting personal care, life sciences, and future mobility, underscoring its cross-industry innovation capabilities that “go beyond chemistry.” ISOLAN? DisperPlus?, a next-generation emulsifier made entirely from renewable resources, supports the development of cosmetics and sunscreens combining natural origin with high functionality. The clinical-grade, non-animal recombinant collagen platform Vecollan? enables customers to develop medical devices with higher safety and superior performance. Several surfactants and catalysts for polyurethane and foam products ensure excellent performance while reducing carbon footprint.
Sustainability: Demonstrating Commitment Through Data and Action
At this year's CIIE, Evonik also officially released the 2025 edition of its "Evonik China Sustainability Practice Report." Notably, China is the only market outside Evonik's global reporting where a dedicated local sustainability report is published, highlighting the strategic importance of the Chinese market within Evonik's global sustainability framework.
The report features multiple case studies aligned with China's national development strategies. In the field of green energy, SEPURAN? Green biogas separation membrane technology has been applied in over 70 projects nationwide. For instance, in Guanyun County, Jiangsu Province, a project processes 300,000 tons of livestock and poultry manure annually, producing 8.76 million cubic meters of biomethane per year, serving as a model for rural energy transition.
In rural revitalization, Evonik partnered with Tibetan brand Yang Kema to launch a handmade soap combining baobab seed oil and yak milk, integrating ECOHANCE? sustainable raw materials with traditional Tibetan craftsmanship, supporting local women's employment and commercializing plateau specialties. Meanwhile, Evonik continues its educational support programs in Yunnan and Jilin provinces, having supported over a hundred students in improving nutrition and completing their education, contributing to rural talent development and educational equity.
Strategic Partnerships: Strengthening Open Innovation Networks to Upgrade Consumer Markets
At the expo, Evonik announced several major strategic partnerships across various fields. To advance the circular economy, Evonik signed an agreement with Yulin High-Tech Zone in Shaanxi Province to jointly establish the “Yulin Evonik Integrated Innovation Center,” focusing on clean production and low-carbon recycling technologies in catalysts, hydrogen energy, coal chemical, and fine chemical industries.
Simultaneously, Evonik announced the joint establishment of the Chinese Innovation Fund “Jinjiang Houxin,” focusing on bio-based solutions, energy transition, and circular economy technologies. Anchor investors include government-backed funds such as Quanzhou Financial Holding and Jinjiang Financial Holding, aiming to build an ecosystem encompassing industrial resources, policy support, and distribution networks to identify and nurture Chinese innovation projects with international competitiveness and accelerate their industrialization.
To upgrade consumer markets, Evonik formed strategic collaborations with 361°, Xuchuan Chemical, MISTINE, and Yadong Group. At the exhibition booth, Evonik and 361° jointly launched the second-generation MassBalance low-carbon running shoe Feiran 5, whose midsole uses Evonik's VESTAMID? ECOE40 nylon-12 elastomer foam material. The shoe offers lightweight design and high rebound performance while reducing carbon emissions by 70% compared to traditional processes, showcasing the green application potential of advanced materials in sportswear.
Evonik also partnered with MISTINE, a brand under Berdawn Group, to co-develop sunscreen and beauty products with enhanced efficacy, safety, and sustainability. In materials innovation, Evonik signed a memorandum with Hebei Yadong Chemical Group to create polyurethane solutions balancing performance and sustainability for construction, home appliances, and emerging applications. Additionally, Evonik collaborated with Xuchuan to promote green upgrades in synthetic leather, helping footwear, apparel, and automotive interior industries achieve environmental transformation.
Moreover, Evonik partnered with the China Soap and Detergent Association to launch the world's first group standard for the biosurfactant “Rhamnolipid,” marking another milestone in Evonik's efforts to standardize sustainable raw materials. This will drive green technological upgrades in the detergent industry and enhance China's international competitiveness in this sector.
These partnerships not only strengthen Evonik's innovation collaboration capabilities in China but also provide more sustainable solutions across the industrial chain.
Through this CIIE appearance, Evonik fully demonstrated its long-term investment and collaborative innovation outcomes in the Chinese market. From product development to green manufacturing, from open cooperation to rural revitalization, Evonik is leveraging world-leading materials science and sustainable innovation to accelerate China's industries toward a greener, more efficient, and mutually beneficial future.
