Multinational specialty chemicals company Nouryon has recently announced several significant investments in China, including expanding organometallics capacity, adding a new modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO) production line, and establishing an organic peroxides innovation center in the country to meet the growing demand for high-performance polymers in China's polymer market.
On October 15, the expansion of organometallics production at Nouryon Chemicals (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd. was completed, doubling its triethylaluminum production capacity. This product is a key co-catalyst required for producing polyethylene and polypropylene used in packaging materials, automotive components, and consumer goods.
Nouryon expects to launch production of modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO) in China by 2027. MMAO is a critical component of catalysts used to manufacture polyolefin elastomers for solar panels.
In addition, Nouryon plans to establish an organic peroxides innovation center in Tianjin by 2026, further enhancing application research capabilities for specialty polymers to accelerate product development and strengthen customer support.
Larry Ryan, President of Nouryon, said: "These investments demonstrate our strong commitment to providing future-oriented specialty chemical solutions for polymers through local production and innovation. Leveraging our global expertise in polymer catalysts and combining it with local market needs, we are dedicated to improving supply reliability, accelerating innovation, and supporting our customers' growth."
Ryan added that the organometallics capacity expansion also includes key infrastructure upgrades, particularly the installation of an advanced thermal oxidizer emission control system and the addition of a blending and packaging station, further solidifying the strategic position of Nouryon's Jiaxing manufacturing site. A research laboratory was established at the site in 2024, focusing on improving organometallics process efficiency and developing new production technologies.
Nouryon's organometallics manufacturing sites span the globe, from La Porte, Texas, USA, and Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to Jiaxing, China. The company also operates organometallics R&D laboratories in Deventer, the Netherlands, and Jiaxing, China, as well as blending and packaging stations in Jiaxing, China, Paulínia, Brazil, and Mahad, India.
