Tatu Coffee Wins Top Honors at Kenya’s Premier Quality Competition

Tatu Coffee Estates Limited has secured first and third place in the Washed Arabica category at Kenya’s most prestigious coffee quality competition—the National Taste of Harvest Kenya 2025–2026 Awards.

Tatu Coffee Wins Top Honors at Kenya’s Premier Quality Competition

During the awards ceremony, James Wanjohi, Director for State Corporations, presented the honors to John Sathya, CEO of Tatu Coffee Estates Limited; Faith Karimi, Managing Director of Oaklands Coffee Marketing Limited; and Simon Nyamu, Chief Agronomist of Tatu Coffee Estates Limited. Tatu Coffee is owned by Rendeavour, the developer of Tatu City Special Economic Zone.

The Washed Arabica category is widely regarded as the most competitive segment of the competition, reflecting Kenya’s long-standing global reputation for producing exceptional specialty coffee. This dual recognition affirms Tatu Coffee’s position among Kenya’s leading producers and highlights the strengths of its estate-based cultivation and processing model.

Spanning over 6,500 acres, Tatu Coffee Estates is wholly owned by Rendeavour, whose long-term investment strategy integrates world-class agricultural practices with sustainable urban development. The estate’s scale enables Tatu Coffee to maintain full control over quality while consistently producing coffees tailored to discerning international specialty markets.

“For decades, Kenyan coffee has been celebrated globally for its exceptional quality,” said John Sathya, CEO of Tatu Coffee Estates. “Winning first and third place in the Washed Arabica category demonstrates that our farming and processing methods deliver consistent, internationally competitive results. This recognition validates the dedication of our team and our commitment to producing world-class Kenyan coffee—while creating meaningful impact for our employees and surrounding communities.”

The award-winning lots were selected from Tatu Coffee’s regular production run, underscoring that the quality recognized by judges is consistent and not limited to special or experimental batches. The international judging panel praised the coffees for their complex aromatic profile—featuring notes of orange blossom, red berries, jam, and stone fruit—with layered clarity, balance, bright acidity, and pronounced sweetness that intensifies through the extraction.

Focused exclusively on the specialty segment, Tatu Coffee supplies premium Washed Arabica to roasters and buyers across Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific—serving markets that prioritize origin-driven quality over commodity-grade coffee.

This achievement also reflects Tatu Coffee’s significant contribution to Kenya’s rural economy. The estate provides thousands of permanent and seasonal jobs, generating substantial employment and income for local coffee-growing communities. At a time when national coffee output faces persistent decline, this investment bolsters livelihoods and enhances the resilience of Kenya’s coffee sector.
