Boeing announced that it received a $173 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to make eight additional MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters. The latest deal follows a $178 million contract for seven aircraft in April.
The new order brings the total number of aircraft under contract to 34 and will include training and sustainment support.
Deliveries to Date
Boeing reported delivering 18 aircraft to date, including 12 low-rate initial production units. The aerospace manufacturer finished shipments for the first operational unit at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana this year and expects to deliver four more to the military branch by 2026.
The Air Force also plans to deploy some of the new order's helicopters to its base in Minot, North Dakota.
Aircraft Capabilities
Based on the Leonardo AW139 helicopter, Boeing equipped the MH-139A Grey Wolf with custom military equipment and designed it for search and rescue, cargo and troop transport, and patrol missions. The company noted that the helicopters will provide continuous monitoring of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Supporting National Security
MH-139 Program Director Azeem Khan stated that the aircraft supports national security missions by delivering enhanced range, payload capacity, and speed.
