Following his podium finish at the season opener in São Paulo, Cassidy once again stood atop the rostrum. In only its second-ever Formula E race, the newly joined Citroën team secured a landmark first win. Edoardo Mortara finished second, with Oliver Rowland close behind in third. Jake Dennis was narrowly edged out by rookie Arthur Leclerc on the line, settling for fifth as Leclerc claimed fourth. At the final high-speed corner, the top five were separated by less than one second.

Cassidy carved his way through the field in his Citroën racer, holding off challengers with composure to cross the finish line first. The New Zealander’s disciplined defense sealed a historic milestone for Citroën in just their second Formula E outing. Mortara, running out of Attack Mode time in the closing laps, was unable to mount a final challenge and settled for second, while Rowland completed the podium in third. Leclerc impressed with a strong drive to fourth, and São Paulo race winner Jake Dennis rounded out the top five.
Raced under the electric atmosphere of Mexico City’s Foro Sol stadium—cheered on by tens of thousands of passionate fans—the season’s first race kicked off at 14:05 local time (04:05 Beijing time). At the start, Leclerc immediately pressured Sébastien Buemi, forcing the Swiss driver into defensive maneuvers. Buemi locked up entering Turn 1 and lost the lead to Leclerc of DS Penske, with Mortara and Maximilian Günther slotting in behind. Pascal Wehrlein, starting eighth, was the first to activate his four-minute Attack Mode window.
After a heavy crash in São Paulo, CUPRA KIRO’s Sam Bird not only started from last on the grid but also incurred a 60-place grid penalty due to component changes. Despite these setbacks, the British veteran fought back valiantly to secure seventh place—earning his first Formula E points of the season.
After Round 2, Cassidy leads the Drivers’ Championship with 40 points, followed by Dennis on 36 and Rowland on 34. In the Teams’ Standings, Citroën sits atop with 44 points, ahead of Andretti’s 36. In the Manufacturers’ World Championship, Stellantis leads Porsche by seven points.
Post-Race Driver Quotes:
(Winner) Nick Cassidy: “This is absolutely incredible—the atmosphere here with so many passionate fans is unlike anything else. Citroën and I have had a dream start, and I’m so grateful they invited me to be part of this journey. It didn’t feel like a win was possible until the very last lap. My engineer kept encouraging me, made all the right calls, and this victory belongs to him too. Of course, none of this would be possible without an amazing car—huge thanks to the entire team. Oh, and I made a bet with Vergne: if I won, I’d shave my head. And honestly, if it helps me win the World Championship, I’d do it in a heartbeat.”
(Second Place) Edoardo Mortara: “Nick drove brilliantly. We started struggling a bit in the middle of the race, and unfortunately couldn’t find the pace in the final laps—but we still scored big points. It was an incredibly tight race, and I’m happy with the podium.”
(Third Place) Oliver Rowland: “I was one of the first to activate Attack Mode. When the full-course yellow came out and I dropped five positions, I thought the race was over. But our energy efficiency was excellent, and I had enough power left for a strong push at the end. I’m thrilled to be on the podium. Formula E always delivers an amazing vibe in Mexico City—I’m honored to race here, and I hope the fans enjoyed it as much as we did.”
