Omdia: India\'s PC Market Hits Record High in Q3 2025 as Consumer Demand Strongly Rebounds

According to the latest research from Omdia, in the third quarter of 2025, India's PC market (excluding tablets) achieved a record-high shipment volume of 4.9 million units, representing a 13% year-on-year increase. Driven by manufacturers accelerating inventory buildup ahead of the festive season and stable deliveries to commercial customers, notebook shipments rose to 4 million units, up 12% year-on-year. Desktop shipments reached 920,000 units, an 18% year-on-year growth. In contrast, India's tablet market declined 19% year-on-year to 1.6 million units in the third quarter of 2025. Although consumer demand remained relatively stable, significant delays in government-led education project tenders and deployments impacted overall performance.

Looking ahead to 2026, India’s PC market is expected to maintain steady growth with a projected 2% annual increase, primarily driven by ongoing device refresh cycles and the accelerated adoption of AI PCs in the mainstream market. For tablets, the commercial segment is poised for a rebound next year as previously delayed education procurement projects enter actual implementation phases.

In the third quarter of 2025, India’s consumer market grew 20% year-on-year, mainly propelled by manufacturers stocking up ahead of the festive season. Initial sales momentum stemmed from early promotional activities on e-commerce platforms, which received strong responses across major online channels. Subsequently, offline retail demand quickly followed, with manufacturers and channel partners maintaining consistent discount and cashback offers, continuously supporting growth. This coordinated festive-season promotion significantly boosted overall consumer demand. Additionally, premium notebook shipments increased 27% year-on-year, benefiting from greater availability of higher-spec models and attractive cashback incentives.

The commercial market grew 7% year-on-year, primarily due to steady progress in enterprise customer refresh programs and continued delivery of scheduled upgrade projects. Large enterprises strictly adhered to their established replacement cycles, ensuring stability in commercial demand. In contrast, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remained cautious amid anticipated cost increases for key components such as memory and display panels. Overall, SMEs are expected to gradually increase IT budget allocations in the coming quarters, laying the foundation for more comprehensive upgrades.

India’s tablet market experienced a notable decline, down 19% year-on-year, primarily due to postponed large-scale education project rollouts and sustained weak spending by private educational institutions. In contrast, the consumer tablet market grew 14%, driven by stronger demand for affordable LTE-enabled models and steady adoption of tablets for entertainment and learning purposes.

Ashweej Aithal, Senior Analyst at Omdia, stated: “The third quarter of 2025 demonstrated both heightened consumer enthusiasm and steady execution in the commercial market. Festive promotions and broader availability of premium products drove the consumer segment to one of its strongest performances in recent cycles, while enterprise customers continued with planned device refreshes despite pricing pressures.”

Omdia forecasts that India’s PC market will grow 13% in 2025, supported by sustained end-user sales during the festive season and continued demand for mid-range product upgrades. Aithal added: “Heading into 2026, component supply and pricing environments are expected to face greater challenges, prompting buyers to advance their procurement cycles to accelerate purchases before prices rise.”

In 2026, the market is expected to sustain robust growth as AI-enabled devices become available across broader price ranges, and replacement demand extends into more tier-2 and tier-3 cities. AI-capable notebooks are projected to be one of the fastest-growing segments, with expanded product portfolios, clearer on-device AI functionality, and the launch of next-generation chip architectures significantly accelerating adoption. Although this category remains small today, optimized software experiences will be key to driving it into the mainstream.

Tablet market performance is expected to remain sluggish for the remainder of 2025, mainly due to inactive education procurement tenders. However, with multiple pending education tenders expected to materialize in early 2026, shipments are likely to rebound, with government-funded education programs becoming critical to recovery. Aithal emphasized: “The pace of these deployments and whether vendors can expand tablet applications beyond educational support into additional use cases will be crucial to market growth.”
