Lubrizol Releases White Paper on the Automotive Lubricants Industry

On July 21, Lubrizol officially released the "White Paper on China's Automotive Lubricants Industry: Breaking Barriers, Renewal, and Growth Vision." From a sustainable development perspective, the report establishes a transformation framework for China's lubricants industry, proposing an industrial upgrading path centered on "sustainable technological innovation and cross-sector ecosystem integration," offering solutions for industrial chain advancement amid energy transition.

The White Paper points out that under the dual drivers of the "dual carbon" goals and the trend toward automotive electrification, China's automotive industry is undergoing a profound shift toward new energy and low-carbon development. The adoption of new energy vehicles is accelerating significantly, hybrid vehicle market penetration continues to rise, and alternative fuel technologies are entering a phase of large-scale exploration. This transformation creates threefold upgrade demands for the lubricant and lubricant additive industries: complying with increasingly stringent emissions regulations, compatibility with diversified powertrain architectures, and overcoming technical bottlenecks in emerging energy lubrication.

Focusing on "technological breakthroughs," the White Paper advocates innovation to drive a low-carbon future, including low-viscosity technologies to improve fuel efficiency, ultra-low ash formulations to meet strict emissions standards, hybrid-specific solutions addressing core challenges of new energy applications, and multi-fuel compatible technologies meeting diverse fuel requirements. The White Paper also proposes building an industry ecosystem based on three pillars—technical collaboration, joint standard development, and collective technology advancement—calling on the industry to shift from "passive compliance" to "proactive leadership" and promote value chain transformation through systematic cooperation.
