On August 18, 2025, BASF signed a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai Fourier Intelligence Co., Ltd. (Fourier) to evaluate and develop new material solutions for various robotic applications.
As part of the strategic cooperation agreement, BASF and Fourier will jointly explore the application and development of engineering plastics, polyurethanes, and thermoplastic polyurethanes in robots and their components, establishing collaboration in technology, business, markets, and business models. This partnership is initiated and driven by BASF Venture Capital (BVC), the venture capital division of the BASF Group.
"We look forward to collaborating with BASF to help Fourier achieve further breakthroughs in embodied intelligence hardware development and accelerate the evolution of the intelligent robotics industry," said Gu Jie, Founder and CEO of Fourier.
Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President and Head of Performance Materials Asia Pacific at BASF, stated, "We are pleased to partner with Fourier, a leading company in general-purpose robotics. By leveraging our respective strengths and expertise, we aim to develop cutting-edge material solutions that drive co-innovation and transform the robotics industry."
Since 2001, BASF Venture Capital has facilitated numerous business collaborations between BASF and external partners worldwide. This marks the first robotics industry collaboration initiated by BVC in China.
