A straight-through coupling, in which both halves are identical. Each half has forward projecting lugs and mating recesses. Any two parts with the same lug dimensions will connect together. This is the standard German tanker connection. The coupling is connected by simply locating the lugs into the recesses of each half and turning clockwise up to the stop. One half of the coupling normally has a swivel head which prevents hose/pipe twists when connecting. Couplings can be connected by hand or with the aid of spanners designed for the purpose.
